The long anticipated 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League draw is finally in. Aside the draw, top performers from the competition last season were also awarded. 2018/2019 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AWARD WINNERS.
The 2018/2019 UEFA champions league which began on 17th September 2018 and concluded on 1st June 2019 at the Estadio wonder metropolitan saw a lot of brilliant performance. Before the awards ceremony this evening, three goal keepers in the name of Allison Becker, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Hugo Lloris were competing for the best keeper award. Allison Becker of Liverpool triumphed in that competition after he kept six clean sheets to help Liverpool win the title last season.
Virgil Van Dijk, Mathis De Ligt and Trent Alexander-Arnold competed for the best defender award with Virgil Van Dijk coming out victorious. Virgil Van Dijk, the towering Dutch captain marshalled the Liverpool defence and kept 5 clean sheets in 12 matches. He also scored 2 important goals and laid on 2 assists to take the best defender award.
In the race for the best midfielder award, Frankie De Jong came out on top from a trio of himself, Christian Eriksen and Jordan Henderson. Frenkie De Jong won the award after his impressive passing and ball control ability in Ajax fairy tale semi-final run.
Sadio Mane, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo competed for the best forward award with Messi coming out on top. Messi recorded 12 goals to top the goalscoring chart. He added a further three assists to his goal output.
UEFA MENS PLAYER OF THE YEAR.
Virgil Van Dijk won the UEFA Men best player award after being pitted against Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He becomes the first defender to win the award since its inception in 2011. He did so having kept 5 clean sheets, scored 2 goals and 2 assists in Liverpool’s run to the title.
2019/2020 UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW IN FULL.
The group stage of the 2019/2020 champions league draw that was just made in Monaco has produced some block buster groups and matches. The headline group is group F which have pitted Barcelona against Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan and Slavia Prague. In another fixture Real Madrid faces Paris Saint German.
